9 Ted Talks for Entrepreneurs You Should Play Today!

ted talks for entrepreneurs

Do you need an extra boost of motivation? I’ve found my absolute FAVORITE Ted Talks for entrepreneurs to give you guys a little boost in your day!

Do you ever have those moment when you know you should really be doing work and being productive, but you just can’t bring yourself to start? I think we all do!

It happens to me ALL the time- especially as a blogger since I’m sitting at my computer all day and I literally have any distraction I could ever imagine available at my fingertips (Google!).

In moments like this, I feel way better watching a motivational video than I do going on Facebook or Instagram. At least I feel like I’m being slightly more “intellectual” and on topic when I listen to a motivation speaker. And that’s exactly why I fell in LOVE with Ted Talks!

If you’re not already listening to Ted Talks, I highly recommend you start!! You can listen to some amazing people talking about (basically) any subject ever. It stands for technology, entertainment and design and it’s evolved so much, you can literally find talks about any subject!

So if you need a little dose of motivation, grab a coffee, get comfy and enjoy these 9 Ted Talks! By the way, if you’re looking for even more inspiration, check out some other posts to get you fired up!

Here are some of my favorite motivational/inspirational/informative Ted Talks for entrepreneurs, business owners and self starters!

1. Tim Urban: Inside the mind of a master procrastinator

Tim Urban delivers a funny, interesting talk on why we procrastinate. He describes our insatiable need for instant gratification and how we often become stuck in a vicious cycle of procrastination, stress, anxiety and self hatred.

2. Casey Gerald: When beliefs fail us, how do we move forward?

This is by far one of my favourite Ted Talks for entrepreneurs I have ever heard. Casey is an amazing speaker and he really brings his message to light with moving stories. He talks about being let down, failure, and his journey to discover his true path. This talk really questions what we are taught to believe about societal culture and corporate America. A MUST see!

3. Courtney Martin: The new American Dream

Courtney argues we must redefine our definition of success and “The American Dream”. Instead of focusing on wealth and possessions, we should base our level of success on family and community. No more climbing the corporate ladder; let’s instead place emphasis on personal growth and consciousness.

4. Seth Godin: How to Get Your Ideas to Spread

Seth Godin never fails to deliver inspiring talks and this is no exception. Seth discusses how we spread ideas, our misconceptions about marketing and how we are shifting from the “TV Industrial Complex” to a new wave of marketing. Too many choices and too little time. According to Seth, the difference between what gets noticed and what doesn’t can be answered by asking: it is remarkable?

5. Andrew Solomon: How the worst moments in our lives make us who we are

Andrew focuses on creating meaning in our struggles and finding light during our dark times. He talks about the importance defining ourselves not only based on our successes, but on our failures as well. “Fold the worst events in your life into a narrative of triumph”. Heartfelt and courageous.

6. Shonda Rhimes: My year of saying yes to everything

Wow, the power of the HUM. What a well written talk by Shonda Rhimes. She reminds us of the power of “yes” and the importance of incorporating joy, happiness and play into our lives. She talks about her experience with burnout and losing drive and balance in her life. Sometimes we need to take a step back, refocus, and take inventory of our true priorities.

7. Malcolm Gladwell: Choice, happiness and spaghetti sauce

Not only is Malcolm an amazing speaker, but he delivers a very important and inspirational message about happiness, choice and diversity we should all hear. Although this talk is from 2004, his message is still relevant and much larger than the perfect Pepsi or spaghetti sauce.

8. Cameron Herold: Let’s raise kids to be entrepreneurs

Cameron wants us to stop vilifying entrepreneurs and let kids choose who they want to be. Life is not all about studying and conforming so let’s stop grooming children into specific careers and start fostering their true talents. Cameron argues that encouraging entrepreneurial dreams in children will have a huge impact on changing our world for the better.

9. Margaret Heffernan: Dare to disagree

Just as the title suggests, Margaret believes the most effective way to truly initiate change is to promote openness, debate, creativity and arguments in the workplace. We must strive to work with partners who are completely different from ourselves and who are not afraid to point out our mistakes. Margaret argues for the creation of a “thinking society”. Very interesting talk!

I hope you guys love these talks as much as I did! Have any other suggestions of Ted Talks for entrepreneurs? Leave a comment below 🙂
